Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Eugene Bianchi Mazzurana, Jr., age 94 passed away in San Antonio on February 12, 2022. He was born in Houston on March 7, 1927 to Dora and Eugene Bianchi Mazzurana, Sr.

Eugene graduated from Central Catholic High School and served in the United States Army. He worked with his dad and owned Mazzurana Memorials in San Antonio. Together they created monuments, statues, benches, vases as well as gothic style fireplaces and columns. He and his dad also renovated and built houses on the streets given the family names of Mazzurana and Rocco (grandfather’s name).

Eugene was a loving husband and father; and "Pampo" to the grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He especially adored his wife Gilda of over 70 years and loved to brag about her crocheted angels.

Eugene loved bowling, hunting & fishing and being outdoors. He was like another kid, all the neighborhood teenagers would gather at our house to play basketball and football, and of course he was always on one of the teams. He loved playing poker, tripoley, dominos and his favorite Mexican train - just so he could say "choo choo" just before the game!

Eugene always had a handyman project going. He loved to work with his hands helping family and friends with their projects, especially enjoyed building pinewood derby cars with the kids and grandkids. He had the biggest sweet tooth - a day could not end without having dessert or maybe two.

Eugene’s death was preceded by his parents Dora and Eugene Mazzurana. He is survived by his six children; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John Philip (Diana Ragan Adams) Mazzurana; Jeanine (Marc) Johnson and son Jarrett; Patricia (Stephen) King and son Paul; Marilynn (Michael) Barth and daughters: Amanda (Greg) Mangelsdorf and children Theodore, Henry and Katherine, Kathleen (Derek) Biggs and children Emma and Charlotte, Emily (Phil) Gaffney and son Finnegan.   Eugene Michael Mazzurana; Paul David (Lori) Mazzurana and sons Brendan and Thomas.

Not sure what to say?

Rest In Peace Mr. Mazzurana Thank you for the gift of sharing two of your great children with me It was a pleasure to know you and John and Jeanine growing up, first at St Martin Hall and then through Central Catholic and in later years when you would stop and visit my dad at his gas station, thank you and Rest In Peace !!!

On behalf of the residents and staff of The Village at Incarnate Word, I offer our sincere sympathy to the entire Mazzurana family, especially his dear wife, Gilda. It was our privilege to care for Eugene in his final illness. May God grant each of you peace and strength in the weeks ahead as you morn the loss of your special man - husband, father and grandfather.

It was an honor to have served and cared for Mr. M. His zest for everything was amazing!! This pass Christmas he sang along
to old Christmas songs while enjoying the company of Mrs. M and a favorite desert. His first thought in the AM was
"where is mom?" and last
thought at night "has mom gone to bed?" At the end of my shift always blessed me by saying "Be careful with the red light."
A personal joke of his.
