Not sure what to say?

God bless you old friend. Gene was best man at my wedding many, many years ago. He was one of a kind for sure.

I was a troubled young boy when Coach Melin asked me if I ever thought about wrestling. He showed me that my anger was hurting me more than even I realized. I fell in love with the sport, and can still remember his face was the first one I saw coming off the mat. Coach Melin and Coach Mac helped a troubled boy become a good man and father. Thank you for always being there for me.

Coach Melin was a big part of my life in high school, I will always treasure what he taught me as a wrestler. I still use some of his trainning techniques at my school today. I remember at a awards ceremony in 1982 All of the coaches and teachers went on and on about thanking people, after an hour and a half when it was Coach Melins turn he stood up and said" I would like to thank eveyrone who has already been thanked " The crowd went crazy with applause. He was always to the direct and to...

B.J. & Missy,
Words alone cannot describe what your dad was to me. He was my dad at more times than not. When my dad was in the garage working Gene was the one taking me fishing and hunting and throwing a ball around with all of us kids. He installed many morals and rules of life that are still a part of my life to this day. Gene was good for over looking the little mistakes and really nail ya for the big ones and you didn't hold that against him because of the things he paid no mind too....

BJ and Missy, your Dad was a special person,I was on one of his first wrestling teams at Madison High School and played fooball for him...I remember my first practice we put the mats down and he laid down on the mats with us and openeda wrestling book and simply stated we are going to learn to wrestle.. One of his quotes that stick with me is Wrestling is what we do in the gym wrasslin is what you do with your girlfriend..He always told us whether we were varsity or jv we were part of the...

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Many good memories have been flooding back. I am curious as to how many of us that wrestled for Coach Melin went on coach? 1987

My sincere sympathy to the family of Mr. Melin. I graduated from MMHS in 1963, so I remember him well, even though I didn't have him for any classes. May God bless you and give you peace.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help at this time.

My condolences to the entire Melin Family. I was able to visit Coach at Cleveland Clinic 2/15/09 while home. He seemed to remember me! A GREAT man & coach. He will always be remembered (Class of 1982).
