Many years ago, my mom and I taught one of the first First Responder classes and EMT classes in Winnsboro. Gene was very instrumental in making sure his "guys" were trained, got what they needed for the training, and carried items in their cars if needed. He would stop by often and make sure my mom and I had what we needed for the class to be a success. For anyone that knew him, he had a gruff voice at times, but he had a heart of gold.
