Eugene Schoonover, age 90, passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Harbour Manor Nursing Home in Noblesville, Ind. Prior to his residency at Harbour Manor, he had been a resident of Evansville, Ind., for most of his life and had attended the Mackey, Ind., Church of the Nazarene.

Mr Schoonover was my homeroom teacher for 4 years graduating in 1975. He said we would be his last senior homeroom. He was such a gentleman and I had great respect for him. I have many fond memories of him.

I graduated in 1980 from Reitz. Mr. Schoonover was one of my math teachers. I will always remember him fondly. My given name is Elizabeth, but I go by Beth. However, Mr. Schoonover told me that Elizabeth was a perfectly good name and he always called me Elizabeth. I remember him as a kind, gentle, and good man. Please accept my sympathies.
