I had the pleasure of working with Gene over 30 years ago at the Y. I remember him as a kind, fair, enthusiastic, and optimistic person. Sincere condolences on his passing.

Gene made my exercises at the Y much more enjoyable. He was special!

Glenna, Kirsten and Corina,
I am sad for all of you with your loss of a good man. It was a privilege to work with him at the Y and to know each of you. Prayers for all of you. You have my sincere sympathy.
Carol Rosso Goetz

Gene was the heart and soul of the Saginaw YMCA. I can honestly say no one has really filled his shoes since he retired. With his office right in the middle of the building, Gene was always a friendly face and ready to be available for all of the activities at the Y, be it organizing a handball tournament or being the master of ceremonies for the prayer breakfast, Gene was there. Gene will always be with us, now is spirit.

Gene, was the greatest, always had a loaf of green bread ready for us ,no matter what we did. Gene would always come out to say hi no matter how he felt. We will sure miss him.

I could write a book about my fond memories of Gene. He truly was Mister YMCA. Gene ran a tight ship, and his booming voice echoed to the far reaches of the Y. Gene did so much to enhance the handball, racquetball and paddleball, especially with our Quickie Tournaments and parties. And not long ago he paid the tab for a gathering of former and current handball players at Horizons, a really memorable day. Well, so much more could be said. And to top it off, he was a great friend.

I'll never forget Gene's smiling face and warm welcome every time I saw him at the Y. He put the 'family' in the Saginaw Family YMCA, keeping things in order, treating everyone equally, and liberally dispensing encouragement to all ages. His family's loss is heaven's gain.
