Not sure what to say?

Dear Mary and family, I am so deeply saddened by the news of Gene's passing. All of us at JD who had the unique opportunity of having had Gene in our lives are better people because of knowing him. Can anyone forget his iconic laugh and his ever-present Thermos of coffee.
I insist my friends listen to Stan Freberg Presents, to this day, and I know that the 47 years I have been active as a writer, director and actor in the Ritz Company Playhouse community theatre wouldn't have been a...

Gene Slagle had to have been one of the best teachers at JD. He was the chaperon for our Senior Prom- I remember he allowed us to decide what part of the cafeteria we wanted to clean before our Prom nite. (They sat where I cleaned so he must have thought I did a good job cleaning it) He was a great Math teacher--he inspired us and encouraged us, which made all the difference with those of us who weren't so gifted. God bless Gene Slagle, we all hope to see you in the next life.

Mary & Family,

We were terribly saddened to hear of Gene's passing. Gene will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our deepest sympathies. Fred, Bill, Ann & John

Summer of 1968: Mr. Slagle became my summer school teacher after I failed the June trigonometry Regents exam. He told our class, "My mission is to make sure you all pass the August Regents exam". We did - and I got the highest mark, with a 93, that went on my permanent scholastic record. An absolutely phenomenal math teacher and a great guy to boot!

RIP Mr. Slagle

sincere condolences to Gary and Mary. Gene was a wonderful person and neighbor.

Outstanding teacher he was so inspiring to all of us who needed extra attention

My condolences to my special friend Mary and her son Gary and family

I never met Eugene but had the pleasure of working many years with his son Gary. If Gary is testament to the kind of man Eugene was I missed knowing a wonderful, caring soul. My Prayers to your whole family at this time of need.

You will be missed. My greatest school memories include you. Thank you for all you did for us. God bless your family. May they stand proud in the knowledge that you were loved by many students. Fly on the wings of eagles

A quintessential family man. If only we all could have such strong values, work ethic, and sense of responsibility. A quality human being. Please rest peacefully.
