I met Gene Studer when he was at West Point. My roommate at the University of Vermont was Nancy Feyereisen, and when she visited West Point, I accompanied her. I could tell immediately that Gene was special and that he loved Nancy dearly. They were perfect together ! I saw them again when they were stationed in California and we have kept up all these years. Whenever I saw Gene he was always interesting, kind and fun. I visited them several years ago on Vashon Island, as we had planned...

Gene was one of my husband`s dearest friends. I will always remember his beautiful toast at Don`s retirement gathering. Such a fine fellow.

Gene was one of the finest enlightened warriors I've ever known. He was special: an American Classic and at the same time a classic American. He truly was a Man for All Seasons. You will be missed, my friend.

Dear Nancy and family,
I'll always remember Gene most fondly. From 1998 to 2002, I rode the old brass-fitted Rhododendron ferry with him from Vashon to Tacoma. Once on the Point Defiance side, passengers with cars competed to see who would give Gene a ride downtown. He was our favorite passenger. Why? Because Gene was a wonderful conversationalist, an exceptional story teller, and an excellent listener. We bantered about politics, Shakespeare, literature, family, fishing, religion, and...

I'm shocked and so sad, he was a very nice man and always had a smile when he would pop into the office. Always was nice to me and I'm just shocked of his passing. My prayers are with Nancy and her family.

I knew Gene from our Seattle Tacoma daily bus commute in the 1990's. Wonderful man-loved his sense of humor, his kindness to his fellow bus passengers (from all walks of life), and his love of American history. Always pleasant. And Gene often regaled me with stories which showed his great affection and love for his wife Nancy and his children. Rest in Heaven Gene.
