Not sure what to say?

I was saddened to read that Gene has passed on. We were roommates during Plebe summer at the Naval Academy. Without Gene's friendship and support I might very well have quit then. When Plebe summer ended the Academy sent us to opposite ends of Bancroft Hall, but we did see one another occasionally during the next four years. Gene was such an outstanding person that I have always remembered him. Bill Butcher, USNA 1953

Joybelle I saw you in Pollys last week and now I express my sorrow for his passing. But, now he is the hands of the almighty and certainly enjoying himself. I worked with him and sent the notice to others who knew him. I also was raised in that part if the country in Upper Michigan. He carried himself well. God bless you and your family.

Mr. Van Hoof was a brilliant, smart and generous man. He will be missed by many but he will shine on forever in his children and grandchildren. Peace be with all of the family.

I was honored to assist the Van Hoof's in the purchase of their home at the lake. "Gene" radiated a quiet strength. I respected him for that and his exemplary service to our country. The best part of my job is the opportunity to meet fine people like Commander Van Hoof.

Dave I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I am sure over the years you made him very proud with all of your accomplishments. You were a wonderful son to him. May he rest in the peace of all of your love. Terri Pease Huffman
