Eugene Walter Wegener, son of Walter and Lillian (Weisenhofer) Wegener, was born July 17, 1929 on their family farm near Ringsted, Iowa. He received his education in Fenton.

On June 25, 1949, Eugene was united in marriage to Lois A. Zinnel in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union two children were born.

Gene and Lois farmed in Palo Alto County for many years. They enjoyed attending dances and camping. They were active and devoted members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Fairville where Gene served on various boards, including the trustees. They also enjoyed getting together with their neighborhood friends to play cards on Wednesday nights and to celebrate holidays, especially the 4th of July and Labor Day. Gene liked fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a very talented mechanic, building many pieces of equipment that he used while farming.

Gene moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota in 2002, where he made his home. He passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; a daughter, Julie Wegener; and brother, John Wegener.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Dawson (Don) of Corydon, Iowa; a son, Jerod Wegener of Cylinder, Iowa; six grandchildren, James Devin (Amy, Nicole Devin, Chase Hawk (Jessica), Sierra Wegener, Joshua Wegener and Wyatt Wegener; two great grandchildren, Justin Devin and Molly Devin; a sister, Joan Waite of Fenton, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Not sure what to say?

Linda I think of Julie once awhile what she might have been more children???Jerod does he look like her ,does he chew the the side of his lip or grid his teeth ever in his lifetime?I know Lois and Gene gave him a good lifeSorry for you loss

My heart is breaking for the loss of my friend, Eugene. No one can understand what anyone else feels in a time of great loss, I am saddened that his passing and obituary wasn't shared with his many, many friends and neighbors in Redwood Falls MN. I am truly sorry for the family's loss and mourn his passing with you, albeit a bit late. Rejoice In Paradise Gene. You will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Linda, I'm so sorry for your loss. Our families always had so much fun together!
