HAPPELLE, Eunice Lavern (nee Brown) October 21, 1933 - August 24, 2013 It is with sadness yet love-filled hearts that we announce the passing of our wife and mother, Eunice Heppelle, on August 24, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit of NRGH. Eunice was a kind and loving person; someone you would be proud to call a friend. She was the only child of Jean (Taylor) Brown and Harold Newton Brown; born in Toronto, Ontario. She was raised in Thunder Bay and it was there that she met the love of her life, Denis. He was a dashing young hockey player who had the good fortune to break his ankle the night young Eunice was working at the hospital as an X-Ray Technician. They married in 1956 and together lived in several places across Western Canada - Winnipeg, Burnaby, Victoria, Edmonton - before eventually making their home in Nanaimo, BC. Together they raised three children, and attended many a hockey game, dance concert, church picnic and piano recital. Eunice worked part-time while the children were little; at hospitals in Thunder Bay and Victoria, as well as NRGH and Madrona Clinic in Nanaimo. She loved square dancing and country music, Nanaimo bars and a good cup of tea, hydrangeas and homegrown raspberries. She will be dearly missed and always remembered by her husband Denis, of Nanaimo; daughter Lynn Cherwonka (Hugh), of Breton, AB; son Mark Heppelle (Kumi), of Kamakura, Japan; grand-daughter Melissa Sheridan (Mike), of Stony Plain, AB; grandsons Joe and Michael Heppelle, of Kamakura, Japan; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Desmond Sheridan, of Stony Plain, AB; and numerous friends and relatives across the country. Predeceased by her youngest child, son Daniel Harold Heppelle, in May 1990; father Harold N. Brown, in June 1965; mother Jean P. Brown, in October 1984. Unmeasurable thanks and gratitude to the nurses and hospice volunteers at the NRGH Palliative Care Unit. Mom's last days were peaceful and dignified. We will always remember all your kindness. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam, Nanaimo, on Wednesday August 28, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. , Reverend Bert Ramsey officiating. Flowers gratefully declined; if desired, donations may be made to the NRGH Palliative Care or the Parkinson's Foundation of BC. Condolences may be offered at [email protected] Telford's Nanaimo 250-591-6644
