Not sure what to say?

Dear Mr. Henry,

I learned of Ms Eva's death from a friend of mine still living in New Orleans. I wanted to write you and express my heartfelt sorrow for you and your family.

You will remember me and my husband, Phil Elsey, from when I rented the basement apartment of your house when I attended Tulane Graduate School in the early 1980s. Both Phil and I remember you both very fondly and want you to know our prayers are with you at this time.

Sincerely,

I met Eva when we were both "nontraditional" students at the University of New Orleans. She was a woman of a generous spirit and a good friend. I shall miss her.

Dear Henry,

May the the angels of JHVH be with you at this time of immense tragedy. I was so grief-stricken when I read today of the flooding of your home, your wife's despair, and her death. There is no loss like the loss of your beloved spouse. You were a great team carrying truth to the world. I am so sad for you and your family. May the angels love and keep you.

Nova (still in Savannah thanks to Katrina, but returning to Donaldsonville next week)

Shannie and I will always remember our cherished Eva with love. Our hearts go out to Henry and to Eva's children and grandchildren.

Our deepest condolences on your loss
and I know that Eva will be very missed by all who knew who
Again please accept our heartfelt condolences

I met Henry and Eva when I was working on a museum exhibit about WWII in 1994. Eva was so kind and welcoming, and I never forgot her kindness--she even cooked me a traditional meal. What a darling couple, I have never forgotten the love they showed for one another---amazing. I only met Eva a few times, but was deeply moved by her story, and by her gentle and beautiful nature. I now live in Seattle.

Eva was a great lady who touched more lives than she could have imagined. She will be missed by all of us. With love and condolences to all of her family,Steve and Lynn

Eva was a tiny woman with a huge presence. She made such an enormous difference in my life. She taught me things I had yearned to know. She shared her life and her family with me, opening doors that gave the deepest meaning to my life. There are no words for this loss, not only to me, to her family and her friends, but to the community as well. It is with great sadness I offer my condolences. I regret that I cannot be there with you for the funeral. Unfortunately, I can only be there...
