Eva B. Jirovsky

Eva B. Jirovsky, 91, of Onawa, Iowa passed away on July 26, 2015, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa. Private family services will be held. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Eva was born in Moorhead, Iowa to Charles and Cora (Sorenson) Larson in July of 1923. She graduated in 1941 from Moorhead High School and moved to Sioux City to attend beauty school. In 1942, she graduated from Samuels School of Beauty Culture and worked as a beautician in Sioux City before returning to Onawa. In March of 1949, she married Joseph Jirovsky. They farmed in the Onawa area. They had two sons, the late James Jirovsky formerly of Reno, NV and Larry Jirovsky of Omaha. Eva was a devout Lutheran. She taught Sunday school for many years and was a Cub Scout leader. She was proud of her Danish heritage. She was devoted to her sons and later to her granddaughters. Her memory and influence live on in them today. Eva's greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters. She loved to cook for them and teach them old church hymns. She cherished the time spent with them. She had a lively sense of humor and an engaging wit. She was an excellent cook and would prepare meals and deliver lunches during the farm seasons. She would often cook for family and friends. She enjoyed playing Bridge and going to morning coffee with her friends. Eva is survived by her son, Larry (Karen) and granddaughters, Lauren and Morgan Jirovsky of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jirovsky; her son, James Jirovsky; her parents, Charles and Cora Larson and her brother, Stanley Larson.
