Eva E. Melnick, 84, of Dover, NH died on August 13, 2009, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a period of failing health. She was born in Dover on June 24, 1925 to Carl and Eva (Cushing) Lindbom.

Eva lived in Dover and Rollinsford, NH most of her life. For the past 20 years Eva resided at Cocheco Park in Dover, where she had many friends. She is survived by her son, John Melnick and his wife, Tammy, of Dover; her daughter Diana Gaidos and her husband John, of Somersworth; her grandchildren, Connor and Cory Melnick, of Dover, David Wright of Lyman, Maine, Katherine Parker-Wright and her husband Christopher Parker, of Dover; and her great-grandson, Theo Wright, of Dover. She also leaves her nieces, Arlene Cole, Cynthia Beckey, and her nephew, Wayne Lindbom, and their families.

Eva attended elementary and high school in Dover, and completed training as a nurse’s aide. She was employed at General Electric in Somersworth, NH for 30 years and at the Monarch Diner in Dover. She was especially fond of her memories of growing up on Monroe Street and we always had a “moment of silence” when we drove by. Eva was a strong and independent woman who loved her family with all her heart. Her sense of humor was with her to the last and she always left us laughing. When asked at the hospital the day before she died if her name was Eva Melnick,, she replied, “I sure am, nobody else would want to be me right now!”

Eva was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Arnold Lindbom and George Cushing; and her sister, Ingrid Lindbom.

Eva will be remembered for her great sense of humor, warmth, strength, independence, and love by all whose lives she touched. She will be missed greatly and treasured always.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover Point Road, on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Father Fritz J. Cerullo, O.S.A. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eva’s memory to The Homemakers Health Services, 215 Rochester Hill Road, Rochester, NH 03867-1701, or to The Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.

Not sure what to say?

My deepest sympathies to Dedee and John and their families during this difficult time. It's hard to come home and not be able to see her warm smile. I always looked forward to her heartfelt cards and will always remember having green jello with her. She is definitely missed. Love to you both!

Dear Family...our thoughts and prayers were with you this morning as you said your final goodbyes to a very special lady. At the Greek Orthodox Church, we say...May Her Memory Be Eternal!

Love, Aunty Merrie and Uncle Ken

Mom, De , Kathy & Tammy

Dear DeeDee and John,

Our condolences to you and your families. Your mom will be missed so much. She was like a mother to us always happy to see us. We have wonderful memories of her taking us to the beach and blueberry picking. She loved to have good times by the pool and having us get together to play Pokeno. It was with family she was the happiest. She truly loved each of us, when I would visit she always had a story to share, she was very proud of her children and...

Melknick family,
Your mom will be greatly missed here at Cocheco Park. She and I had a great relationship over the many years that she graced us here. One that will never be forgotten. My wife also expresses her deepest sympathies. She worked with her at GE.

t was my great pleasure to know Eva, and I shall miss sharing future birthdays with her.

Dear Diana,

It was just yesterday wasn't it that I would be warmly welcomed by your Mom when you and I "hung out" at your house in our high school days?
My Mom reminisced about your Mom many times and....Monroe Street!! Here's a hug. Know that I am there with you. Much love,

Eva rode our shopping bus for many years and she was always positive and smiling, with only good things to say about everybody. Due to her declining health, she was not able to be with us as often as we wished. Eva was a lovely lady with a great smile, and we will miss her very much. I know I'll always remember her as a fighter who never looked back, only forward to the next goal. What a fantastic lady!

Our deepest sympathy to the Melnick Family.
