Eva C. Topping

Eva was a dear friend and respected elder for young Greek-Americans. Many times during my life she served as a source of inspiration and affirmation and as someone I tried to emulate. She shared her love of books and ideas and her support of liberal causes with those of us growing up in the midwest who generally only heard reactionary ideas from elders.

Writer, historian, first woman permitted to lecture at the Greek Orthodox Holy Cross Seminary, Brookline,MA, first woman to propose that women be allowed in the Orthodox priesthood, Eva Catafygiotu Topping was a voice for women in Orthodoxy. She was kindness personified to family,relatives, friends and to many Clergy.
Eva and Peter W. Topping were the ultimate scholars, their home a haven for books and learning. Their passing diminishes our world.
