MONROE, Evan W. - Of Swartz Creek, age 80, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Father Steven F. Makranyi officiating. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of Swartz Creek, VFW Post No. 3720 Honor Guard. Those desiring, may make contributions to the American Heart Association. Visitation 5- 8PM Thursday, 11AM-3 and 5-8PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Monroe was born in Flushing, Michigan on June 20, 1923 and was a resident of Mundy Township for the past 40 years. He married Mary Vohwinkle on October 26, 1943 in Flint. Mr. Monroe graduated from St. Matthew High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of Swartz Creek, VFW Post No. 3720, Moose Lodge No. 287, Gladwin, Michigan, was a member of AMVETS, the American Legion and F.O.E. in Secord, Michigan and the NRA. He enjoyed spending time with his family at Secord Lake in Gladwin, collecting antiques and yard work with his many tractors. Mr. Monroe was owner and operator of Monroe's Lounge in Rankin, Michigan for 17 years. Prior to his G.M. service he was employed by the Flint Police Department and Genesee County Sheriff Department. He was employed by Buick Motor Division, Plant Protection for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Surviving are wife, Mary; 3 sons, Michael, Dan and wife Patricia, Timothy and wife Shirley, all of Mundy Township; daughter, Cheryl and husband Gordon Ware of Rochester Hills, Michigan; grandchildren, Troy, Tracy and husband David Watson, Michael, Amy, Nicholas, Morgan and husband John Fereghetti and Trevor; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason, Tyler, Zoe, Logan and Chase; a brother, James and wife Jacqueline of Suttons Bay, Michigan; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
