Eve Bock

Dear Jane, My father, Robert Roy Emerson, died also this year 2013, on February 19. He was 76 years old, just shy by one week of his 77th birthday. I am deeply sorry to read of the loss of your mother. I have vivid memories of her, and of the slumber parties and deep friendship that you and I shared during our childhood years. I still have the lovely gifts you brought back to me from your visit "home" to Czechoslovakia, early '71, during our West Junior High School years in Tiffin, OH. ...

"Frau Bock" was one if my favorite professors at Heidelberg. The first day of class in Ger 101 in 1972, she gave such an interesting lecture on the origins of the German language and comparing it to old English that I was amazed at how little I had noticed it before and how fast the hour went. A woman before her time. I didn't know her well, but adored her husband, whom I had for religion.

Eve was our beloved aunt. Among my fondest childhood memories of our Aunt Eve was the excitement she brought to our family Christmas celebrations with her beautifully decorated traditional handmade Czech Christmas cookies. As children we were also fascinated by the way she had decorated the family's big Victorian house in Tiffin with old world antiques and ruby-red Czech glassware. Eve was a lovely woman.

Mrs. Bock was my German teacher at Heidelberg in 1966-67, and I took "Religion 201--History of Christianity" from her husband, Paul. They were both very fine human beings and wonderful teachers. We had the pleasure of knowing their daughter Jane as a member of our church in Mount Vernon several decades ago. Our deepest condolences to the family.
