Evelyn Lillian (Erlandson) Baker, 99, of David Road, North Attleboro; formerly of Malden; died on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Pond Home in Wrentham where she resided since December 2005. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Theodore Stephen Baker, Sr. to whom she was married on July 17, 1942 and entered into eternal rest on March 18, 1991.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts on September 15, 1908, she was the daughter of immigrants to the United States from their native Sweden, the late Carl and Sophia (Nelson) Erlandson. She remained a lifelong resident of Malden until moving to the Pond Home in Wrentham.

Mrs. Baker was primarily a homemaker dedicated to her family. She had been employed as a secretary and purchasing agent for the Raytheon Corporation in Waltham and from 1960 – 1968 was employed as a secretary for the former John S. Cheever Paper Company in Boston, the predecessor to the Paperama Store chain that was present throughout New England.

While living in Malden she resided on Marlboro Street, Goodhue Street and Sprague Street.

Mrs. Baker was a lifelong member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Malden.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a woman of great independence, quick wit and sense of humor.

Some of her favorite pastimes were playing canasta, solving crossword puzzles and reading mystery novels. She was a collector and treasured the time spent traveling to yard sales and rummage sales.

An accomplished poet, Mrs. Baker’s works were published by The National Library of Poetry.

She was the beloved mother of Rev. Carole L. Baker, Pastor of Central Congregational Church, of North Attleboro and Theodore S. Baker, Jr. and his wife, Katherine G. (Woodworth) Baker, of Dover, New Hampshire; grandmother of Michael Jameson Baker and his fiancée, Ashlee Wimberley, of Dover, New Hampshire; great grandmother of identical twins: Laci Baker and Lexi Baker both of Dover, New Hampshire and was the dear friend of Dorothy and Stanley Embree and family of North Attleboro.

She was the sister of the late Paul G. Erlandson, Esther Anderson and Ellen M. Peterson.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the DYER-LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 161 Commonwealth Avenue(exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to arrange for an advance reservation for such gratis transportation.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her Funeral Service on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Central Congregational Church, 115 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Joan Haner, United Church of Christ, officiating.

Following church services, family and friends will be invited to gather for a time of continued fellowship and refreshment at the church.

Private burial will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers and if desired, memorial donations in Mrs. Baker’s name may be made to the Memorial Fund of Central Congregational Church, P.O. Box 1319, Attleboro Falls, MA 02763.
