Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Evelyn D Bentley, aged 94, went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2024 in Bloomfield Hills surrounded by her family. She was born in Santa Barbara California on November 3, 1930, to Francis Cain and Nora V Cain. She was a proud resident of Flint, Michigan for nearly her entire life, and was a lifelong member of West Flint Church of God, which later became the Hill Creek Church of God. She was active in the Church community and was a part of many ladies' ministries and events. Evelyn was a bookkeeper for several companies for most of her adult life to help support her family. She married Robert E Bentley and they spent their lives together, until his passing in 1998. Evelyn was a sharp mind with a witty sense of humor. As a four year old, still living in California, she walked into her house with her apron full of Monarch Butterflies she had caught in a nearby field. When her mother asked what she had in her apron, she yelled “Butterflies!” and released them all throughout the house. That sense of wonder and humor never left her in 94 years. Her family also remembers her as the ‘Queen of Chinese Checkers’ with an undefeated reign in the board game that spreads across multiple generations. What she will be remembered for most, however, is her love for God and her family. She was forever proud of her son, her grandson, and her husband. After 26 years without her spouse, she will finally be with him again; forever. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis Cain and Nora V Cain, her brother and sister in law Dale and Esther Cain, and her beloved husband Robert Elywn Bentley. Evelyn is survived by her son Kevin Bentley (Jennifer Gerish), her grandson Scott Robert Bentley, and 16 neices and nephews.
