Home Economics wouldn't have been the same without Mrs. Hamby. Who doesn't remember the strawberry jam or the weeks (and weeks) it took us to sew our aprons. Throughout it all, Mrs. Hamby was there to coach us along and encourage us along our unsteady way. She was a mixture of mother and grandmother to us and every bit as patient. I also recall her allowing us to sit with a bowl of ice in the center of each table, to help keep us cool on really hot days. (No AC back in those days 1979-1980) Mrs. Hamby was someone who loved her work and we loved her just as much for it.

She was a wonderful teacher. I know we all loved her and learned a lot about home economics. Her jam was amazingly good. Rest in peace Mrs Hamby...

Mrs. Hamby taught me Home Ec at Dexter. She was soooo patient as I broke needle after needle trying to make those darn blue, velour sweat pants! But that strawberry jam...please know what a difference she made in so many young lives! I will keep "the whole extended Hamby family" in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve this loss.
...did I mention that strawberry jam she taught us to can?

I have fond memories of Mrs. Hamby, my home ec teacher at Dexter School. I met her again at Atria before she and her husband moved to Ohio. They still had a vibrant spirit.
Sincere sympathy to Judy and her family.

Mrs. Hamby was my Home Economics teacher at Dexter. I remember her as being nice and her class was very enjoyable to me. My love of cooking and sewing began with her classes. I'm so sorry for your loss.
