Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Hartmann was my music teacher at Hawthorne High School in the early 50s. She encouraged me to continue with my music. Mrs. Hartmann was a great influence on me. I learned much about music theory from her. I graduated from Montclare State College and became a music teacher. I just now read her obituary in June 2022. So sorry to learn this.

I was fortunate to have Mrs. Hartmann as my chorus teacher for four years at Hawthorne High School (1960-64). She was a dedicated, inspiring, and caring teacher. I shall never forget her.

Mrs. Hartmann was my music teacher at HHS from 1960-1964. She taught me how to sing harmony which I still do today. I remember the operatic festivals, going to the Met to see the opera (and sitting in the center box) and all state chorus tryouts and singing after school in small groups. She arranged for several of us to sing Messiah with the Masterwork Chorus at Carnegie Hall which is something I will never forget. I still sing Messiah every year, now with Cathedral Choir. Thank you,...

Mrs. Hartman was totally instrumental in changing the course of my life. Discovering that I had an operatic singing voice in my senior year at Hawthorne High, she gave me many opportunities to perform solos in the school choir and encourged me to go to school to study music and sing. As a result I had an aperatic career for 8 years in this country and throughout Europe. And although I left the Opera stage to raise my two children, I continued to perform throughout my adult life at...

I sang in the Jr & Sr choirs of Old First Church in Middletown. Thank you, Mrs. Hartmann, for the beautiful music you made, your imagination, and your patience (including occasional emergency pipe organ repairs with chewing gum from the jr. choir). I fondly remember the years I spent singing in your choirs, and will never forget the candelight carol services and you playing that wonderful organ's bells, leading us in carols we knew by heart. Thank you for sharing your magic with us. RIP

She was my chorus leader/teacher at Hawthorne High School and the inspiration for my love of singing and choral music. An amazing woman, never to be forgotten by her students.

What an inspirational teacher. I had her for chorus at Hawthorne High School 1961-1963. It was her recommendation that got my husband, Dave Koetsier, into college as a music major. We both loved her.

I was in the HHS chorus from '63 to '67. What a fun time with Mrs. Hartmann as director. I still say "Ennunciate, ennunciate!" when someone is not speaking clearly. Her love of music was very clear to everyone, as she made us always strive for perfection. I was so proud to be a part of her chorus. She lived a wonderful, long, happy life. I celebrate her life and my having been a part of it. She now directs the angels' chorus.
