Lucas, Evelyn May
Evelyn May Lucas, 83, of Phoenix AZ, went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2015, after a long illness, and was laid to rest on February 17, 2015. Evelyn was born September 9, 1931, in Detroit MI, where she grew up with her parents and three brothers. As a young lady she learned to play the accordion, was the captain of her high school basketball team (even though she was all of 5 feet tall), and was the Valedictorian of her graduating class. She married her love, Murray Lucas, in 1952, and moved to Phoenix in 1960 with her husband and 3 young children, and they added two more children to the family after they settled here in Phoenix. She was deeply devoted to her faith, her family, and her friends. She spent many years teaching Sunday School, taking care of grandchildren, and selling Avon. She loved singing in the church choir and cantatas. She had a great love for ballet, and each year had season tickets to the Arizona Ballet, which she loved to share with her family and friends. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, and Friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Ella Westerfield; two of her brothers, Wayne Westerfield and Charles Westerfield; her eldest grandchild, Brian Lucas; and her husband of 45 years, Murray Lucas. She will be greatly missed by her beloved extended family, and her many dear friends. She is survived by her 3 sons: David Lucas of Phoenix AZ, Paul Lucas of Phoenix AZ, and Peter Lucas of Canyon Lake TX; her 2 daughters: Barbara Wason of Glendale AZ, and Karen Williams of Cottonwood AZ; also survived by 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; Evelyn is also survived by her brother Robert (Barbara) Westerfield of Richland MS. A memorial service took place on February 17, 2015, at Funeraria Del Angel Greer-Wilson Chapel in Phoenix AZ, followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale AZ, where she was laid to rest alongside her beloved husband.
