I may have said this before but I’m going to say it again. I met Evelyn when I went to work at Lever Brothers Company in Edgewater, NJ. She was very tall and I was a bit frightened of her initially until I learned how proud she was to see me working in the office. Her employee number was 1674 and she got such at the fact that I could remember her number without asking as well as other employees. I first met Evelyn at Lever Bros. Co. in 1966 when I was 20 years old. She was so proud to see this young Black girl working in the personnel office and she was especially proud that I knew her employee number (1674) without having to ask her. She was my NJ mother and I loved her very much.
We kept in touch even when she moved to NC and my daughter used to visit while she was attending Bennett College in Greensboro. I never forgot her birthday 11/11 or Mother's Day and she was always...
