Evelyn Smiley Rissman, age 94, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Thursday, September 10, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Rissman was born in Waterman, Illinois, May 21, 1921, daughter of Ray M. and Rachel (Gibbons) Smiley. She graduated from Waterman High School in 1939. Evelyn married Harold A. Rissman February 20, 1944. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Valpo Guild. She was a loving and well-loved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.


She is survived by J. Kurt (Lora) Rissman of DeKalb, Illinois, Arlo (Lila) Rissman of Live Oak, Florida, daughter-in-law, Anne Rissman of Live Oak, Florida, and Eric Rissman of Bell, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Ray Andrew (Julie) Rissman of Sycamore, Illinois, Timothy (Kristi) Rissman of Topeka, Kansas, Wendy Rissman of Waterman, Illinois, Lydia (Gabe) McNeese of Lake City, Colorado, Bethany (Damien) Hunter of Newberry, Florida, Harold “Zeke” (Erin) Rissman of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Caitlin (Patrick Hoy) Rissman of Vero Beach, Florida, Holly (Brian) Angstadt of Atlanta, Georgia, Sarah (Winston) Taitt of Orlando, Florida, and Gabrielle Metz of Boonsboro, Maryland; and 16 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan, and Ethan, of Sycamore, Illinois, Kyla and Dean of Topeka, Kansas, Jaden and Rowan of Lake City, Colorado, Alivia, Liam, Eli, Ollivander, and Stella, of Newberry, Florida, Zachary and Lilia of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Violet of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brandon of Boonsboro, Maryland.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, her sister, and her son, Neil.


A private family graveside service will be held at Johnson Grove Cemetery in rural Shabbona. Memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb, Illinois or Hospice.
