Evelyn Rolland Obituary

ROLLAND Evelyn LaBarthe Rolland passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at age 93. A native of New Orleans, she was a resident of Old Jefferson for the past 21 years. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Rolland, Jr. and daughter of the late Estelle LaBarthe. Evelyn will be missed always by her daughters Kathleen Rolland, Johnell Rolland Todaro and Lynette Rolland; son-in-law Rene' Becnel; and grandchildren John Elliot Todaro, Gabrielle & Dominique Becnel. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Raymond Rolland and other relatives and friends. Evelyn was a proud graduate of the 1938 class of John McDonogh High School and enjoyed reunions with "the girls" for over 70 years. She was an inspiration to all through her unwavering faith in the Lord & her willingness to help others through volunteerism. Evelyn will be remembered for her love of life, all things New Orleans, flowers, playing cards and her resilient spirit. Thanks to her kind neighbors and loving caregivers, Evelyn was able to remain in her home surrounded by her family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Dear Aunt Evelyn and family,

When I remember our dear Evelyn I can not help but remember her along with my mom and Aunt Melanie and Aunt Jessie. They were different personalities but shared a common old time trait of devoutness to God and family. The emblem of an age old piety that makes humanity good, fresh, strong and everlasting.

I specifically think of Aunt Evelyn as a most dutiful soul. Someone who bore their cross in life and tolerated the inevitable difficulties we are all forced to face in our sojourn though this world. A person who is steady, accepts their place in society and manages to get their job done while enjoying and sharing whatever God has given them.

I see such people in a simple but remarkable way. A sort of saintliness yet too much like the common man to be canonized. Someone who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life while accepting the pains of destiny and fate in a realistic and sobering mode. Evelyn seemed to epitomize this type of person to me.

Certainly she is with her Savior and living and loving in His grace. I only hope she remembers us a little and begs a blessing from All Mighty God to help us though life with the same determination and goodness as she.

sincerely,
Johnny Berg and family
