Evelyn Sherbondy

Evelyn Sherbondy will celebrate her 93rd birthday May 12, 2011, with Jesus and all of her friends in Heavens Gate Ballroom.

Evelyn was born in Weston, Iowa, to a pair of loving Danes, named Henry and Ellen Larson. The one room school in Hazel Dell Township couldn't finish her hunger for learning; so she pursued her education at Council Bluffs, Abraham Lincoln and capped off studies at Dana College and UNO. She could tickle the ivories off a piano and helped entertain soldiers around the Florida area during World War II. She later married the most loving and faithful man in the world, Phillip Lee Sherbondy. She wooed audiences around Council Bluffs with the Iowa School for the Deaf's traveling musical ensemble. She was a founding member of Salem United Methodist Church, a member of the Gideons International Womens Auxiliary, Ruth Circle and Trailblazers.

Her tribe includes children (and their spouses), Edwin Rhode (deceased), David (Dianne) Rhode, Jo Ellen (Jim) Kill, John (Kip) Sherbondy, Kathee Sherbondy, Andrea (Daniel) Reasoner. Evelyn has 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Family and friends will remember Evelyn's antics and loving nature Thursday, April 21, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Good Friday morning at Salem Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by feasting. Burial, after the lunch at Saint Paul's Boomer Township Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to Gideon's International or to the Salem Methodist Music Department.
