Evelyn Utley Obituary

Evelyn Louise
Privette England Utley
GASTONIA -- Mrs. Utley, 72, of Gastonia went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas with her family by her side. Evelyn had fought a strong, hard but brief battle with cancer never complaining or asking 'Why me?'
A daughter of the late Mallie and Lola Privette, Evelyn was born May 28, 1938 in Mecklenburg County, NC. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church and dearly loved the Lord.
Evelyn loved her children and grandchildren more than anything in the world and will always be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Linda England; daughters, Debbie England and Wanda Pleasant; four grandchildren, Bradley and Taylor England, Crystal Crocker and Michael Pleasant and his wife, Mandy; as well as five great-grandchildren, Zachary Crocker, Amy, Autumn, Michael Jr. and Austin Pleasant; and one sister, Sarah Best.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by three sisters, Barbara Turner, Cathy Lee and Dot Thomas; two brothers-in-law, Emmitt Lee and Wade Thomas; and a son-in-law, Charles Pleasant Jr.
A service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 5th at Berea Baptist Church with the Reverend Mike Forrester officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the church.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Gaston County Hospice for all they did during this difficult time for our mother as well as us. Thank you for having such compassion for others. We would like to especially thank Pauline Zimmerman and Brea Hodge for their faithfulness weekly. You are special ladies! We would also like to send a special thanks to our pastor, Mike Forrester, and the other men who came so faithfully several times a week to see if Mom or any of us needed anything and prayed for us every day. We love our church family and appreciate all they have done for us.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Gaston County, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054 or to Berea Baptist Church Building Fund, 2522 Hickory Grove Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Condolences may be offered at www.forestlawnwest.com. Arrangements are in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive (704.395.0055).

Mom,
I can't believe you have been gone a month. I miss you so much that I can't hardly make it through the day or night. I start to go to the phone to remind you that your favorite TV program is coming on or to just talk to you to make sure you are ok or if you needed something and then remember you are not there, you are in Heaven. Mom, I know you are so happy now, you are with your mother, father, sisters, my little baby boy that I have not ever seen, my husband and my daddy. You are pain free, hallelujah and have a new glorified body. I can't wait to see you and our family again. Mom I love you with all of my heart and you are the best mother in the world. I miss you going to church with me. It has been hard for me to get back in church without you but I do promise you that I am going back to church like I am suppose to. Mom, I will see you soon.
Love and miss you,
Wanda (Daughter)

Debbie, Wanda, & Jerry,
I am very sorry about your mom. She was a very special woman, & a very special aunt. I loved her dearly, & will miss her dearly. She was my second mom, & helped raise me when I was growing up. I know she is better off, & not suffering anymore. She is in better hands & is with her mom & her other sisters, looking down at us. I really miss her!! I think about her every day. Me, Debbie & Jerry all grew up together, & we need to still stay
close to each other. You are all in my thoughts & prayers, & I love you all!!
We will see her again one day, in a better place!!

WANDA, DEBBIE, JERRY AND LINDA,
I HAVE BEEN A FRIEND OF EVELYN SINCE ALL OF
YOU WERE KIDS AND JERRY WAS A BABY. WE SHARED MANY GOOD TIMES TOGETHER AND TALKED FOR HOURS AND HOURS ON THE PHONE. SINCE I READ HER OBITUARY IN THE PAPER, I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT HER SMILE, LAUGHTER AND THE MANY THINGS WE SHARED. SHE WAS SO SWEET AND A WONDERFUL FRIEND TO LISTEN. TIME SEPERATED US BUT I'VE NEVER FORGOTTEN HER AND OUR VISITS. I LIVED IN WEDDINGTON AND KNEW EVELYN'S MOTHER AND FAMILY. SHE IS IN A WONDERFUL BEAUTIFUL PLACE NOW WHERE SHE LOOKED FORWARD TO BEING. YOUR MOTHER LOVED ALL OF YOU SO VERY MUCH. YOU WERE HER JOY. YOU WILL SEE HER AGAIN. I WISH I COULD HUG YOU ALL NOW AND I HAVE YOU IN MY PRAYERS AND HEART.
MY LOVE TO YOU AND GOD'S BLESSINGS.
I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.

Jerry and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God keep you and comfort you during this time and always. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

A Friend

March 3, 2011

Debbie, my sincere sympathy to you and your family. Always remember, you are loved. Evelyn was a kind and gentle soul and how blessed you all were to pull together as a family during these past several months. Cherish the memories and love one another - the best legacy and tribute to your mother.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight
On the ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there.
I did not die.
My Spirit is still alive…
