Everett Farris Obituary

Highly decorated paralyzed Lynn veteranLYNN-Everett F. Farris, Jr., 63, of Lynn died Sunday in Brockton VA after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Donna "Dee" (Whittemore) Farris, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.Born in Lynn, son of the late Everett F and Frances (Lake) Farris, Sr., he was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1965. He received an associate degree in Criminal justice from North Shore Community College. He then attended Bentley College to become a paralegal and Suffolk University, serving his internship at the Attorney General's Office. He was a lifelong resident of Lynn. He was a Disabled U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Anti-tank Company of 169th Infantry Regiment, during which time he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon w/ Bronze Service Star as well as the Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/ Bronze Service Star.He was the Graves Officer in the Veteran's Office of Lynn City Hall for several years until his retirement in 1999 due to health issues. He was previously employed at AWACS Systems. Everett was a member of St. Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church, and was a member of AFSCME. He was an active participant, Gold Medalist, and member of the New England Paralyzed Veterans Association, representing Massachusetts at various NEPVA Olympic Games. He was a past Commander of the In Country Nam Vets in Lynn and was also a past commander of Vietnam Veterans in Somerville, as well as a past commander of the DAV Chapter 64. He was a volunteer for probation in Lynn District Court. He was a former Soccer and T-Ball Coach for the Pine Hill League. He was also a former foster parent.In addition to his wife, he leaves four sons Steven D. Farris of Danvers, Dusty J. Farris of Peabody, Everett F. Farris,III of Gloucester, and Cody-Turk Farris, a 10th grade student at Lynn English High School of Lynn, a daughter Hailey Johnson-Farris of Lynn, a stepson Richard C. Clegg of Bingham, ME, a sister Marie Graham of Loudonville, NY, and his lifelong friend Daniel Bennett of Lynn, 1 grandson Elijah Farris, his godson Justin Johnson, and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Diedre Farris, grandfather of the late Nicole Clegg, and brother-in-law of the late Beverly A. Norfolk.Service Information: Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St., Lynn Thursday at 8 a.m. Funeral Services in St. Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
