Ev was a good, kind, and thoughtful man who brightened and enlightened us all. Our most vivid remembrance of Ev is his phrase, "Is this played straight or syncopated?" Also, who can forget his bold way of tapping his foot to the beat? Once he apologized to me for being so picky about the music; all I could say was, "Ev, you are being helpful -- not picky.
