Everett and Evelyn Ortner were extraordinary, gifted people. Our favorite Everett story is his explanation about why he never ate fish. When he was a child, his mother served him a whole fish. Everett looked that fish in the eye and realized it was once a living, breathing creature. So he stuck to eating beef, which came in cellophane wrap.
