Funeral for Evie "Gene" Augusta Gray, 78, of Decatur will be Friday, October 26, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Caleb Miller officiating. Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gray died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born January 22, 1934, in Elys, Ky., to Walter Gray and Deloria Walker Gray. Gene spent 42 years as a welder. He was known for his quality work and education to his trade. He was a devoted husband of 52 years, a wonderful father and grandfather, and best friend to his furry companion, Princess. Gene liked traveling, especially to see his family in Kentucky. He loved being outdoors spending time with his garden, flowers, and plants. Gene enjoyed watching the news and talking politics. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and always had a good story or joke to tell. Gene was a good neighbor and friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sandra Gray Jones; and two brothers, Aulbrey Gray and Frank Gray.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Richard Gray; one son, Eugene Gray (Kim) of Decatur; one daughter, Lori "Eva" Spitnale (Larry) of Ohio; two sisters, Alma Sulfridge of Tennessee and Geraldine Taylor of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Megan and Josh Jones, Emily and Abigail Gray, Tara Bassett (Josh) and Sara Grace (Gus); eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be family members.
