JOHNSON FUNERAL HOME Obituary

Evie Marie Reed, 6, of Lake Charles, LA earned her Angel Wings on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the arms of her parents and in the presence of her family after complications from a bone marrow transplant following a rare form of Leukemia.

Evie fought Leukemia with admirable bravery, strength, and feistiness. During the most difficult time in her life, she brought a ray of sunshine wherever she went. She brought smiles to our faces and joy to our hearts with her larger than life personality. She loved dancing, swimming and inviting people to imaginary parties. She loved her family and friends fiercely and never met a stranger. She had an amazing smile and charmed all she met. She taught us to be strong and brave too. Thank you Super Evie, it was a privilege and a pleasure knowing you and we look forward to seeing you again. You will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.

Evie is survived by her parents, Rob and Dayna Gharst Reed of Lake Charles; grandparents, Kathy Reed of Pine Bluff, AR, Ronald and Loretta Gharst; Great Grandmother, Wilda Morrison of Lake Charles; aunt, Erica and husband Boyd Smith of Gretna, LA; uncles, Detlef Gharst and wife Rachel of Lake Charles and John Gharst of Lake Charles; and great-aunt’s, Carol Murnane and husband Peter of Austin, TX, Grace Kirkpatrick and husband Terry of Hope, AR.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Vernon Reed; great-grandparents Kittie and Robert Durham; and great-grandparents, Charles Morrison and Jack and Phyllis Gharst.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church. Brother Jerry Parmentier will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

To celebrate Evie’s life, the family asks everyone to wear bright colors to the service as Evie’s favorite color was “rainbow.”

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the local Colors for a Cause or Brennan’s Blessings by contacting Kay Sonnier at [email protected]

I didn't know Evie or her family but I have been watching her story through friends that knew her. I am so sorry that this happened. I'm glad she's finally pain free. My hopes are that her family can find a light in this painful time and know they did everything to the full extent for this baby girl. May she rest peacefully.
