Evonne Whitmore is the reason I am where I am. She encouraged me when I needed to be encouraged but also pushed me when I needed to be pushed. But the best thing she did for me, was believe in me.

I am so sad to hear this. Dr. Whitmore was one of my instructors when I was a freshman at Norfolk State in 1977. I was impressed how she taught her class, how she spoke and how she carried herself. She meant business and we youngsters knew it. She was serious about educating us. I saw her a few years later at a journalism conference at Howard University.
