Fairel Allen
March 14, 1936 - November 17, 2025
Beavan "Fairel" Allen passed away on Monday, November 17, surrounded by his family.
Born on March 14, 1936 in Robbins, NC, Fairel was a devoted husband, son, father and grandfather. He moved to Greensboro, NC in 1956 and went to McClung's Business College. After being drafted in the United States Army for three years, he spent 42 years as a buyer and employee of Carolina Ribbon And Carbon in Greensboro.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Nell Allen; his only daughter, Lisa Maples, and son-in-law, Gene Maples; granddaughters, Hannah and Grace Maples; nephew, Wayne Upchurch, and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was incredibly proud of each one of his family members and loved to tell others about their lives. He loved to sit around the table or in his recliner and bring joy to his family by making them laugh and reminisce through his gift of storytelling.
Fairel found great joy in spending time with his family, especially moments shared while talking about their lives and old memories. He and Nell were married for 65 years and did everything together. Nell lovingly and faithfully cared for him as he faced health challenges in the past few years. They loved to take care of their grandchildren and celebrate every holiday and birthday, usually in Charlotte, NC with Lisa, Gene, Hannah, Grace and with his daughter's in laws, Jack and Dot Maples.
He loved Jesus and faithfully lived his life to honor God. He served as Sunday School Director for 40 years, sang in the church choir and helped with the organization of church finances. He and Nell prayed for his family, other people and his grand dog. His faith provided his source of strength and hope in God. He loved to worship the Lord with the people of God at Bridge of Hope Church in Greensboro, NC, at 4104 Short Farm Rd., where he was a member.
His mind stayed sharp all of his life which allowed him to recall and tell so many stories from the almost nine decades of his life. He loved to share that he and Elvis Pressley were in the Army together, but Elvis was in Germany and he was in Georgia serving the United States so they never met. Truly, he got every ounce of life out of his life and did so with integrity, courage and love. He will be greatly missed and forever in the hearts of his family.
He loved so many and they loved him. While working in his yard, he met many wonderful neighbors who became treasured friends. He meticulously and intentionally created a beautiful, manicured lawn which he enjoyed for almost 50 years at their home. His desire was to honor the Lord and lift him up even in the way his yard looked.
A visitation to honor Fairel's life will be held on Friday, November 21, at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, located at 6000 W. Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27407. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 p.m. His funeral will begin at 2:00 at the Chapel with his internment to follow at nearby Guiford Memorial Park Cemetery.
May his memory inspire us to embrace the lives that we are living and prepare for heaven where we will see him again in his new body, healed and whole.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bridge of Hope Church in Greensboro or to a
charity of the donor's choice.
