It is with great sadness that we announce, that on March 19th, 2023, while surrounded by family, Fay Jean (Romanos) Johns was peacefully carried by angels to her rest. Fay was born on December 28th, 1938 in Stamford, CT to Peter and Isabella Romanos. She graduated from Stamford High School and attended Manchester Community College. She went on to work as Executive Assistant to the Director of the State of Connecticut EMS Department until her retirement.
Fay met the love of her life, George, at a Greek dance and they were married in 1958. They settled in East Hartford, CT where they had many family and friends nearby, and raised their daughters Debbie and Georgia.
Fay’s cornerstones were Faith, Family, Friends and … Golf. She was an active member in the Greek Orthodox Churches in both Hartford, CT and their retirement home in Port Charlotte, FL. Fay had so many friends in both CT and FL, but if you were lucky enough to call her a friend, she made you feel more like family. And in spite of being a relatively late-in-life golfer, she was very good – she had a hole in one at Portland West CC in Connecticut and is on the “Hole-In-One” list at the Maple Leaf Golf Club in Florida.
Fay will be missed and remembered with love by all who knew her. She leaves her husband of 64 years, George, her daughters and sons-in-law Georgia and Chris Hickey and Debbie and Ken Morrison; granddaughters Chelsea and Julie Morrison, Julie’s fiancé Josh Griffin; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Patricia Romanos, sister-in-law Carol Johns, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Calling hours are on Tuesday April 4, 2023 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM at the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford, CT, followed immediately by the funeral service. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Fay’s name to The Lupus Foundation of America.
