Not sure what to say?

I still remember Fern fondly. The Pen Pal program that we enjoyed together has ended with the retirement of the school principal. The Dennis School retired faculty meet once a month for lunch and conversation; Fern would have enjoyed this. Decatur Area Retired Teachers Association (DARTA) is still actively working for the benefits of retired teachers throughout Illinois. I'm thinking of you on this anniversary.

Dear Jolynn & Joan,
I just want you to know that I always thought a lot of and respected both your parents. Parents are sadly irreplaceable, but you were certainly blessed with the best. Every once in awhile I ran into your mother in Decatur - the last time was at Perkins shortly before she left Decatur. I know she will be missed by many.

Sincerely,
Alice (Pritts) Burk

Dear Friends,
Mary Allen and family send their thoughts and prayers to Fern's family.
Your folks were married the same year Phil & Mary were, and Fern & Mary taught at the same school. We even have old black & white 5 x 7's of Vern & Fern & babies. We are so thankful that Jolynn & Joan brought Fern to Phil's funeral: it was a blessing that Fern & Mary could see each other. Mardene Derry was sharing thoughts about Fern with Mary at church today, so know that your mom was loved...

I was saddened to learn of Fern's death when John Meehan called. Fern and I taught at Dennis from 1974 until her retirement. After I retired we enjoyed going together to Pen-Pal parties at Oreana Elementary School to meet our third-grade 'pals.' Due to bronchitis, I am unable to attend the memorial service for Fern on Monday, but will be thinking about you all. Verlyn Rosenberger
