Fernanda O. Bernardo, 84, of Fisher Street, Attleboro, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Bernardo who passed in 1987.
Born Fernanda O. Garcia in St. Michael, Azores on April 17, 1926, Fernanda was a beloved daughter of the late Antonio and Antonia (Araujo) Garcia. She was raised and educated in Portugal. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1966.
Fernanda retired from the former Foster Metals Company in Attleboro after many years of service as a press operator. She enjoyed reading, watching soap operas, cooking for her family, and the companionship of her beloved dog. Fernanda was a longtime communicant of Holy Ghost Church. Her greatest joy was in spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.
Fernanda is survived by two sons: Manny Bernardo of Florida, and Joseph Bernardo of Attleboro, two daughters: Antonia Araujo of Attleboro, and Lucy Tansey of Texas, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Joseph Garcia, Manuel Garcia, Antonio Garcia, Ludouina Rapose, Estrela Cruz, Marie Coelho, and Teresa Pavao.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro where the Bernardo family will receive friends on Sunday, November 21st from 6 PM – 8 PM. A funeral will be conducted on Monday, November 22nd at 9:30 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Holy Ghost Church, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro, celebrated by the Rev. John Murray, Pastor. Fernanda will be laid to rest in St. John’s Cemetery in Attleboro.
