Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

On September 4, 2018, the world lost a great man and we lost a beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather and a friend to everyone he ever met.

He went to be with our Heavenly Father and is now with his wife of 51 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita.  They were married for almost 52 years.  He leaves behind 5 children, daughter Lidia Templeman (Dave), son Fernando Fuentes, Jr. (Gloria), daughter Leticia Jimenez, daughter Loretta Boeck (David), and son Daniel Fuentes (Mona).  He is also survived by two sisters, Alice Cheaney and Minerva Guardiola as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He leaves 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great-grandchild.

Dad served our country proudly in WWII from December, 1942 to December, 1945; his tour of duty included France, Belgium and Germany.  In February, 2016, Dad was honored by the Library of Congress to be part of the Veterans History Project.

Dad graduated from the University of Texas in 1951 with a degree in pharmacy, worked for Sommers Drug Stores for over 20 years before opening his own pharmacy and eventually retired in 1996.  Even though he retired in 1996, Dad kept up with computer technology:  he pursued his online continuing education courses, renewed his professional license up to and including 2019, conducted his banking online, ordered products and even texted us messages from time to time.

Dad enjoyed playing bingo, working on jigsaw and Sudoku puzzles, listening to and singing along with music; he had a beautiful singing voice.  He was an avid Longhorn fan…  “Hook’em Horns.”

We will always be grateful to Brookdale Senior Living; the staff members, caregivers, Dr. Mack and other dear residents provided so much care, laughter and joy.  Our thanks also to the wonderful people at Embrace Hospice LLC.

Dad, we will miss you so much,
Lidia, Monnie, Letty, Lori and Danny
