CW2 Fernando Maestre (U.S. Army Retired), 70, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015. Born in La Habana, Cuba, he has been a resident of the Peninsula since 1968, where he started and operated the family accounting business, F&L Enterprises until he retired in 2012 after 27 years. Fernando served in the U.S. Army for 15 years, with service during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1982. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a 4th Degree Knight and a Past Grand Knight of Council 5480. He was also a member of the Cuban Maristas Alumni Association and CNU Alumni Association. Fernando also served as a volunteer at Mary Immaculate Hospital. Fernando was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lourdes. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Luisa S. Maestre; daughter, Teresa Mummert and her husband David; son, Fernando Maestre, Jr.; and grandchildren, Maria Lourdes Mummert, Ana Silvia Mummert, and Johnathan Antonio Bradley Mummert. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 PM Wednesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Immediately following at 6:00 PM, a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. John David Ramsey. Interment will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Peninsula Memorial Park.
