When I was young, he was just "Uncle Fernly," one of my favorite uncles for his calm demeanor and broad, friendly smile. As as child I was fascinated that he could write with either hand; being ambidextrous was useful as a surgeon. Later in life, I came to respect the man ... a human who had brought happiness, peace, and better health to many though his skills and compassion for his fellow man. Uncle Fernly, you will be missed, but you are now with your Savior and those who preceded you.
