I took a painting course from Flora at the Harvards Carpenter Center in 1976. She was passionate about painting and a terrific teacher. She encouraged me - saying if you want to accomplish anything as a painter you will have to make alot of mistakes. I have followed her advice throughout my painting career !. Flora was a very important influence on my life as a young artist. In the mid 70's we had adjacent studios at 20 Vernon St. in Somerville, MA. She was a powerful force as she created amazing art while raising two young children and teaching at Harvard. I observed her develop a series of remarkable large collages on canvas based on Bruegel's Tower of Babel series. Her strong presence, work ethic , and knowledge of art history as well as her critical eye were instrumental in shaping my life.

Condolences to Flora's family. I knew Flora only through her fantastic artwork. I repeatedly referred back to her art for the pleasure it gave me and for inspiration.
