I had the pleasure of being a student of her!!!!!

I know it has been 16 years since the passing of Ms. Athay, but I just came across this. I never had her as a teacher, but she was the advisor of the Jerseymen at BHS where I was a student and member. I worked very closely with her in this organization for 4 years. She was truly a mentor and friend as I, too, entered the education profession. She was kind, compassionate and empathetic as well as being one of the most dedicated teachers I had ever come across. I am extremely saddened by the death of my great aunt Florence. My father was raised by her, as my grandparents were divorced and my great aunt lived with her sister. My father loved his aunt very much and was able to say goodbye, thankfully. I did not have the opportunity, but I have many fond memories of spending time with her in Bloomfield when I was a child. She is greatly missed. I only wish that I'd been able to properly tell her what impact she and my grandmother have had on my life. I...

Sorry to hear of the loss of such a dedicated educator, who affected the lives of so many.

It was my great privilege to have Miss Athay as a sociology teacher. Her class is one of my many enduring and wonderful memories of Butler High School. May God keep her in His eternal love.
