Florence Ivey

IVEY, Florence Murrell Holman, of Montgomery, danced through Heaven's Gates on Sunday, May 10, 2015. She patiently awaited her Heavenly Father's embrace and the glorious reunion with her precious James. Visitation will be Friday, May 15 from 11:00 to 12:00 at Leak-Memory. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 in the chapel with Rev. Ashley Davis and Rev. Forrest Weekly officiating. Murrell was born on April 16, 1928 in Elmore County, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, James Edward Ivey, parents, John Percy Holman and Ida Lee Gilliland Holman, stepmother Fannie Lou Murphy Holman, sister Inez H. Woodman, and brothers Johnnie Holman, and Lewis Holman. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sandra Murrell Ivey Powell of Montgomery, Alabama; loving grandson, Cody Edward Powell of Montgomery, Alabama; dedicated brother, Thomas Wayne Holman of Millbrook, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews; and many caring friends and neighbors. She was a dedicated wife to James, loving mother to Sandra, and doting grandmother to her only grandson, Cody. She was considered a fighter throughout her life, overcoming many health related obstacles from childhood until the very end of her earthly life. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a devoted member of Wallsboro United Methodist Church until her health prevented her from attending. Pallbearers will be Jim Baker, Howard Chatman, Waymon Gooden, TJ Manis, Terry Powell, and Steve Stockton. The family would like to express their thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their loving care and support throughout Mrs. Ivey's illness. There are no words to express the family's gratitude to Alice Cotton who spent countless hours taking wonderful care of and loving Mrs. Ivey like she was her own mother.
