When I heard from Susan that Flo had passed away the other day, it was as if my own mother had died. In the summer of 1956, when I was 14 years old, I met the Minkoff family. Susan became and remains one of my closest friends, and Flo became a surrogate mother to me, which I sorely needed as my mother was ill and absent from our home for about 3 months.
