NORRIS, Florence Elizabeth "Flossie" Douglas, 87, a Kinsale native and widow of Walter Biscoe Norris Sr., died after a brief illness on July 13, 2010 at Farnham Manor, where she had been lovingly cared for by the exceptional staff during the final three years of her life. Born at Honey Hill, she was the daughter of Luther Robins Douglas and Inez Almeda Straughan Douglas. Flossie attended Elba School, old Cople School and Mary Washington College. She then trained as a nurse at Johnston-Willis Hospital before joining the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, where she attained the rank of First Lieutenant. After she retired from the Postal Service as Edwardsville's postmaster, she and Walter Sr. delivered the Westmoreland News and seafood. Besides her husband and her parents, Flossie was predeceased by her sister, Marie Pace. She is survived by her sons, Walter "Petie" Norris (Lynn) and Douglas Norris (Margaret); her brother, Robbins Douglas; niece, Robyn Douglas; nephew, William Douglas; great-nephew, Dalton Douglas; her adopted brother, Clay Straughan (Mary) and his children, Barry, Michael and Lynn and their children; many cousins and friends; and longtime caregivers, Linda Coleman and Wes Turner. The family welcomes visitors to share memories and refreshments at Plainview, 181 Plainview Rd., Kinsale, on Friday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service (there will be no burial) will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 1 p.m. at Carmel UMC, Kinsale, with Pastor Donna Zeller Blythe (long associated with Carmel) officiating.
