Floyd "Lindy" Merket Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2015.
Floyd W. Merket, 87 was called home to be with his Lord and Savior early on Saturday morning, May 2, 2015. Services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 5, at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Shields.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on Monday, May 4 at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City.
"Lindy" Merket was born on October 17, 1927 in China Grove to Floyd Willis Merket and Celia Mae (Allen) Merket. He married the love of his life, JoAnn Plaster on July 5, 1957 in Colorado City.
Lindy proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and was honorably discharged in December 1947. He and his brother-in-law, Paul Hunter, operated a local Pontiac automobile dealership in Colorado City for many years until 1961 at which time he entered into the farming, ranching and dairy business. Lindy, along with his brother Eugene "Bo" Merket, who passed away in January 2014, operated Merket Brothers Farm and Dairy until 1972. Lindy was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthea Hunter of Colorado City, a sister, Betty Bills of Binghamton, New York and his brother Eugene "Bo" Merket of Colorado City.
Lindy will always be remembered for his unwavering love for his family. He cherished his wife JoAnn as well as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and loved people unconditionally. He never had a negative word toward anyone. With his outgoing expressive personality, there was always a sincere, reserved inner compassion for those around him who were less fortunate, sick or hurting. Lindy always displayed his true belief that you should always treat others as you would want to be treated.
Lindy loved the outdoors. He loved being on the farm and taking hunting and camping trips with his family and friends to the mountains of Colorado. He often reflected on stories and memories of hunting and camping with those he loved.
Survivors include his wife JoAnn, daughter Dondi Kilpatrick and husband Audie of Lubbock, son Russell "Rusty" Merket and wife Kim of China Grove, a brother Russell "Lucky" Merket and wife Penny of Lampasas, grand-daughters Kendra Merket of China Grove, Lindsey Glasscock and husband Colton of Lubbock, Lauren Kilpatrick and fiancée Jake Szot of Midland, great-grandsons Trenten Merket of China Grove and Trayson Glasscock of Lubbock. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Following the services, burial will be in the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or to a local Hospice organization.
The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation and love to the following care providers who provided care to Lindy. The staff and nurses at Mitchell County Hospital, Valley Fair Nursing Home, and the loving dedicated in-home care givers, Alice, Kim, Brenda, Julia and from Comfort Keepers, Amanda and Meagan.
