I am truly sorry to learn of Jack's passing. I served with him on the Public Health Service Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) When I was relatively new to the DMAT, Jack paid for my airfare from St Croix to BWI out of his own pocket after our Hurricane Hugo deployment because the federal government couldn't get its act together.
