Unfortunately, in recent times, the term " hero" has lost much of its historical meaning . Skip Miller was truly a Hero in every sense of the word . US Marine Corps award review boards are notorious for ignoring or downgrading peer recommended valor awards for enlisted men , particularly for Marines that survived their selfless , courageous acts of incredible valor . Met Skip in August 1962 when coming aboard the USS Princeton at Johnston Atoll for the remainder of the nuclear tests. We came back to Long Beach, CA, later transferring to Marine base LTA in Santa Ana, Ca. From there to the Far East with HMM-163 where we made several trips to Vietnam with Skip becoming a Crew Chief on a UH34D helicopter.
