Foster Zeh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 16, 2011.
Foster V. Zeh, 75, of Annadale, who was proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, died Thursday at home.
Born in Harlem, he graduated from Patrick Henry High School and lived in Manhattan until moving to Prince's Bay 18 years ago. He had lived in Annadale for 10 years. Mr. Zeh was a master carpenter and a member of Local 157, formerly Local 257, NYC District Council of Carpenters. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw duty as a corporal in the Korean War. He was very proud of having trained under Lt. Gen. Lewis (Chesty) Puller, said his son, Foster T. Zeh. After his military stint, Mr. Zeh played professional football for a time, wearing number 59 for the Washington Redskins, his family said. He was a member of the Marine Corps League of Staten Island, Sunnyside. Mr. Zeh delighted in time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed all kinds of woodworking, fishing, and was an accomplished equestrian. "He was an amazing cook, and overall an amazing father and husband," said his son, Foster T. "He is adored and will be greatly missed by the entire family." Mr. Zeh attended Holy Child R.C. Church, Annadale. Surviving, along with his son, are his wife of 44 years, the former Nellie Carbonell; his daughters, Nellie Messemer, Debra Stratton and Vivian Zeh; a brother, Victor; a sister, Rosemarie Stematelous, and nine grandchildren. The funeral was scheduled for today from the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Child Church. Entombment was to follow in Woodbridge (N.J.) Memorial Gardens.
