O'Neill Funeral Home - Cumberland Obituary

Dr. Fouad Edward Yazbak, 89, of West Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on April 8th, 2021, joining his cherished wife of 61 years, Maureen (Moynahan) Yazbak who passed way 17 months earlier.

Born in Damanhour, Egypt, he was the son of Dr. Edouard and Eugenie (Farazli) Yazbak and brother to Yvonne and Margaret and brother-in-law to Lawrence (all who predeceased him).

Dr. Yazbak arrived in America in 1957 with his medical degree, $62 and four family photos to join the staff of St. Clare’s Hospital in New York City as an intern. Two weeks later he met Maureen who was completing her nursing education at St. Claire’s. It was love at first sight and they married 6 months later. In 1959, he joined the faculty of Brown University’s Institute of Health Sciences as Pediatric Director of the Child Development Study and Assistant Clinical Director for infectious diseases at Charles V. Chapin Hospital in Providence RI. Dr. and Mrs. Yazbak subsequently began a pediatric practice in Cumberland RI in 1963 from which he retired in 1997. Dr. Yazbak was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and past president of the staff of Woonsocket Hospital. He was a school physician in Northern Rhode Island for 34 years in service to his community. A proud and grateful naturalized American, he helped several doctors immigrate to America.

Dr. Yazbak was known for his expertise, availability and work ethic. He was the last breed of doctor to make house calls. Patients routinely visited the Yazbak home, only to be invited to stay for dinner. An avid fisherman and boater, he spent many summer Saturday afternoons fishing with family and friends in Narragansett Bay and off Pt. Judith. Later, Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound became his favorite spots. When his children were younger and his pediatric practice busy, Maureen ensured he got breaks during the winter by organizing family winter weekends in New Hampshire.

After retirement, Dr. Yazbak returned to medical research and writing and worked to add Italian to his Arabic, English and French. He was happiest with a house full of loved ones. He loved gathering family and friends around a table for large meals featuring great food and wonderful stories.

He is survived by four children and their spouses: Edward (Donna), Eugene (Barbara), Dr. Philip (Darlene) and Kathleen (Stephen). He was the proud grandfather of fifteen: Kacia (Daniel), Bryanna (Sean), Edward, Amy (Christopher), Katrina (Adam), Eleanor, Philip, Joseph Fouad, Dr. Abigail, Andrew, Matthew, Theo, Lucas, Roddy and Louis. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Conrad, Gunnar, Zavier, Wyatt, Kyrie, Caleb and Savannah. He was predeceased by one grandchild, Bartley.

Fouad’s sister, Margaret (Lawrence) had two sons and their families adored their Uncle Fou: Roger, Susan and India Ison and Bryan and Joellen Ison.

In addition to his family, Fouad and Maureen cherished their many close friendships which spanned decades and the globe. Friends became family: for example, Dr. Patrick Levesque was like a brother to Fouad. Mrs. Andree Levesque and her son Charles were by his side in his final moments.

The funeral Mass will be video live streamed right here on Dr. Yazbak’s obituary page, on Saturday, May 1st 2021 at 11:00 AM, Eastern Time.

For those looking to remember Fouad, donations can be made to: Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA, and Riverview School in East Sandwich, MA; both played instrumental roles in the wellbeing and growth of two of his grandchildren.

Not sure what to say?

I never knew he passed away until I was looking up who my pediatrician was to tell my friend. Why I saw this my heart went straight out to the family. I was his patient and adored him and Yasigian very much. I told everyone to bring their children to them. I was sad when he retired but loved that Yasigian stayed until September 1, 2017. They to me are the best pediatricians I've came across in my life. I send my deepest sympathies to the entire family.

Much love,
Megan Site...

Dear Dr. Yasbak, I just learned with big sadness of your passing away. Thank you for defending like a warrior the cause of autistic children and trying to find the cause and writing so beautiful acientific articles. I had the chance to talk and write a lot to you in 2005 for our research. You were so wise and struggled to defend the children until the end. Nunca lo olvidaré. Jamais on vous oubliera. Vous êtes un héros!

I was so sad to learn of Dr Yazbak’s passing. He was the first doctor who encouraged us to fight for healing, while others advised us to accept what was. Dr Yazbak was open to possibilities, where others were closed; he was a beacon of hope that inspired a miraculous journey of healing, for a family that will forever be grateful. His star will forever shine bright.

My heart is broken to learn of the passing of my dear friend, Fou, one of my favorite people in the whole world and a great doctor. The last time we spoke, he invited me (again) to visit. I'm so sorry I was not able to do so. And just last week I emailed him, checking in. Rest in peace, wonderful man. Love, Sandy

Rest in peace Dr. Yazbak.
I'll forever remember your kindness, the chilly stethoscope on my back, the thick accent saying "now breathe for me,.." and the sweet smell of your pipe. Tight lines forever Doctor!

My heart, prayers, & thoughts go out to all of Fouad’s children, & extended family.
I will always remember our “beach weeks” on Cape Cod, when my late husband (Pharmacist) would take Fouad
fishing on our boat “MedicineMan” ( 2 peas in a pod, happy as can be !), while Maureen & I took long beach walks,
sharing our lives, our joys, and our friendship.
I grew to know “Dr.Yaz” at the hospital when he encouraged me ( Microbiologist) to join the “Infectious Disease” and...

Thank you and Rest In Peace Dr. Yazbak. You were the most loving pediatrician, house visits when needed, like when Paula, Linda, and Daniel came down with chicken pox. It was with your whole heart and mind you treated my children. They remember you well! Our sympathies to your loving family.

Goodbye my friend until we meet again
I will always remember you and miss you and miss the time we spent talking about the old country having coffee in the evening watching the sunset a beautiful sunset at your home, I know you are happy new you with the love of your life You are beautiful wife!

I'm so sorry to the Yazbak family, our sympathies to all. I met Dr. Yaz when I was 3 he was our pediatrician. He was funny and you always felt safe with him. I loved his pipe! Was his patient until I was too old and big to fit in his waiting room chairs. Became friends with Kathy and the rest of the family and always felt a part of the family between Dr. Yaz and Mo they were loving and welcomed all into their home. Now they are in peace and together. He shaped my life and always cared for...
