FRANCES HESS

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Fran was the epitome of "the woman of valor", a too rare occurrence in the world. We are all poorer without her.

Since 1951, Fran vacationed at Lake O'Hara in the western Canadian Rockies 40 times with various family members. When her mother, Maxine Aaron, died in 1996, Fran was asked to take her place on the Trails Club Board, on which she served until her passing. She not only enjoyed the Lake O'Hara area intensely but she gave back to this special place through her personal efforts.To quote Albert Pike, "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world...

Dear Hess Family,

My deepest sympathies.
I am a Professor at Brooklyn College and served for 10 years on the Hess Committee. This is where I first met Frances and over time we realized we had family connections. My cousin Marcia and Fran were long time friends from Vassar; some of my research dealt with Ethiopia; Norma Wilentz Hess was my mother's college roommate.

I enjoyed working with Fran. She was always interested in what faculty and students were doing at Brooklyn...

I was sorry to hear about the death of Jonathan's mother. I have been thinking of your family as you walk in the pathway of mourning. I was so saddened to learn of Frannie's passing. She was a dear friend to my family for many years back to when we all lived in Glencoe, IL. She always went out of her way and had such amazing energy. I know that she was an avid volunteer with so many things plus she traveled to visit and help with her family members. I was also so impressed that every summer, she would travel to the Canadian Rockies to join her friends and family members and hike all around. ...
